Credo AI is grateful for the opportunity to provide insights on the intersection between privacy and AI governance and commends the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) for their dedication to enhancing AI governance and privacy risk management in agency applications of AI. 🌟 Our submission highlights how privacy risk management can be compatible with AI governance frameworks. Our recommendations include: 1️⃣ Unique risks of AI: Agencies must go beyond “being good stewards of data,” and deploy risk management plans that take into account the contextual nature of AI. 2️⃣ Need for a system-level approach: The unique privacy risks associated with AI will require that agencies take an organizational and system-level approach to managing AI risks. 3️⃣ Privacy across AI lifecycle: OMB should require privacy evaluations at each step of the AI development lifecycle, including during design, development, deployment, and ongoing operation. 4️⃣ Advanced privacy-compromising risks: OMB guidance and PIAs should extend beyond evaluating traditional privacy considerations to address new types of privacy-compromising risks and vulnerabilities.
